ok so when ever i start my truck i get a **** load of like smog smoke whatever a big cloud of light grey smoke comes out and i have no clue what it is...it happens in the morning but then i was driving it today and it was hot in the afternoon and it was still doing it

yeah i have some of that, though its in the mornings so the coolness could have an effect...Mines not a WHOLE lot but enought to say "hey what the hell"

 

If it's bluish colored smoke, and it mainly happens after sitting overnight, then chances are it's bad valve guides & valve guide seals.

With the OHV 4.0L, it's possible to change out the valve guide seals without pulling the heads. You pressurize the cylinder (or fill with a small rope) then pull the rocker arm, valve spring retainer, and valve spring, then the seal can be replaced.

haha i dont know its just a light colored grey smoke coming from the exhaust everytime i turn it on no matter if ive been driving for awhile or if its been sitting over night or for a few hours

 

If you have higher humidity and don't drive much and the temperature at start up is low, you will get condensation in the exhaust system burning off at first start up. This will be white steam though. You will get more steam if you drive shorter trips that don't get the engine up to operating temps. If you are getting a white sweet smelling smoke, you are burning coolant.

 

Bob might be right about the valve guides and seals.

But before saying thats what it is.. I'd ask how quickly it started doing this? If it just happened all of a sudden.. and it's more then just a small puff? Then you are getting oil and/or coolant in the combustion chamber after shut off.

Could be a head gasket or an intake manifold if thats the case.

Im with takeda on this one, my mazda started doing this before i got rid of it

 

ya i think its oil....when i looked at my front end my passenger side spindal and coil and some parts up front were covered n oil i got to clean to see where it is leaking from

 

is it a grayish white color if so it water

 

OR....you're got a blown head, and you've got coolant leaking out. Generally, white smoke/smog/stuff coming from the exhaust is condensation...usually early in the morning or on cold days when you start up, initially....White smoke/smog/stuff ALL the time is usually indicative of burning coolant. Take a sniff...if it smells sickly-sweet, check your coolant level and see if you're losing coolant. If it smells like exhaust, it's probably just water vapor.

 

my buddy just told me that when i was driving down the road that it was smoking also..what could that be from?

 

As stated in these posts, the smoke can be quite a few things....you have to give us more to work with to have us help you diagnose your problem.

 

thats all i got...i got my oil changed on monday....i just checked my coolant level and its to the line....umm all i got is i have an oil leak somewhere up front on the passenger side

 

Keep an eye on that coolant level, and does the smoke smell like oil or coolant? That smoke may be oil hitting the manifold or something....

 

thats what i was thinking its not really sweet as more of engine smell and exhaust which when i saw the leak made me think it was dripping onto the exhaust or something

 

When your going down the road is the smoke coming from only the exhaust pipe? Is so the engine is burning it. If not it's most likely the external leak your seeing.
