So these trucks are pretty peppy eh...

Just raced my buddy today to see how my 4.0 SOHC would compare to his 4.7L Dodge dakota V8 Magnum.

I beat him. 33's and all. fast effing trucks...even for an automatic

My buddy's 2007 F150 Supercab 5.4 2wd beat the hell out of my truck. Rangers are decent for what they are but just decent.

I beat my friend's 5.4 Auto crew cab f-150 and he was not happy, he demanded a rematch where I beat him again. I also went up against a 6.0 silverado and a 5.7 Ram, both of which left me in the dust.

5.4s stock are slow i beat one on the highway on my way home from picking up a skidplate last year. thats why a tuner is great for them. opens them up a lot

^ the LS truck engines are so de-tuned from the factory that a 5.3L can pick up 30hp and the 6.0 will pick up 40hp. I would love to have a 5.3 LS in my Ranger, 350 hp would put a smile on my face.

I have beaten a 99 5.4. Though there are a lot of variables so each race may be different. Racing here and there never hurt my truck yet, although the tires beg to differ.

So I stepped on it just to check out the power and it's pretty quick! Even with the bigger tires! Then my low fuel light came on lol

I tend not to street race anyone anymore but every now and then the urge comes to haunt me. Had a guy in a mid 90's 4.6L crown vic try to race me one night coming to work. He would pass me then slow down til I got beside him then try to take off fast and slow down again... just being a real douche. Well we were stopped at a redlight and I said, ehh WTH. Light turned green and all I saw was his headlights. At the next redlight I even gave the guy a thumbs up and he stormed off to the right like his butt was hurt. Kinda made me wish I had my Firebird again.

In nearly 3 years of ownership I can't say I've ever raced my truck against anything 'cept the clock when I'm heading to work. That's when my Ranger goes really fast!

BTW; there are dragstrips all over the nation for stuff like this. No innocent bystanders or traffic violations there.

Just sayin'...

I raced mine once right after I lifted it and beat a Chevy Silverado with a 5.7. Very impressed.

I bet mine could beat a Cobalt SS....

But seriously, I don't think that a 2.3 and an auto will beat much on the road. I got back home from being in California for work where I drove a rental. First time I went to merge onto the freeway with my truck I couldn't believe how much slower it was than the rental I had (an 09 Nissan Sentra). Apples and oranges, I know. Wish I had the 4.0.

I beat full size trucks all day....Ive had more trouble with v6 imports than with fullsize trucks. (ive never raced a hemi/SRT, SS, or lightning...im talking about common fullsize trucks)

My OHV was a peppy *****, stock i had 4.10s, that thing was fun!

As for the 5.3, my Silverado hauls some ***. I've heard people beating the 5.3 with the 5.4.. and I've heard of the 5.3 beating the 5.4. I would bet it could take a Ranger. I sorta went up against a 4.0 SOHC in my OHV, both of us were on 285s and had the 5 speed, he had the intake, pulleys and maybe a tuner? He pulled on my but it wasn't a huge lead.

Alot of it has to do with driver skill, there's also alllll the elements that go into a race.. I wouldn't mind putting my truck up against an equivalent (bone stock) F150 and seeing how it does.
