spark plug answers

I've read and searched on here for awhile and am still a little confused. I want to put new plugs in my '03 4.0 SOHC and would like to use Motorcraft plugs but apparently according to dealer parts people its a different part number now. Suprisingly, of the all the dealers within 20 miles, they only have 5 plugs in stock at about 7 different dealers....seems strange...not convinced they are looking for the right plug. Owners manual calls for a AGSF-34FP plug.

My questions are...

What is the current parts number for the plugs? Again, it is an '03 4.0

Can I get them (Motorcraft plugs) at a parts store (O'reilly, Advanced, AutoZone) etc. and if so should I ask for 2005 or so Mustang 4.0 plugs since I have heard that their catalogs give you the the 4.0 OHC plugs?

Gonna try and do this tomorrow, just need some solid answers. Thanks

Autolite double plats are the same as the motorcraft plugs.

They are both made by Honeywell.

most parts stores will have a book at the counter or rack with the part number for most makes/models... o look up your truck and it will tell you what will fit

Yeah but most parts store catalogs don't differenciate between the 4.0 OHC & SOHC so you'll end up with the wrong plug.

The books I looked at had the same plug listed for the OHV and the SOHC...I just looked up plugs for the Explorer.

I found a dude at Autozone that just cross referenced 4.0 Mustang plugs and we came up with the correct plug. Took a minute but he was helpful. His computer had the same plugs for the OHC also listed for my SOHC. I told him it wasn't right and he was happy to do some searching for me. Ended up with Autolite platinum 5144s...I'll make a new thread with pics, changed them earlier today. I called around to a few dealers here in town and even if I spent all day driving from dealer to dealer I could still only come up with 5 Motorcraft plugs. Suprised the dealers dont stock them more.

I just installed a set of E3.54 plugs in my "04 sohc 4x4 and it runs and idles like crap. It had a set of NGK TR55GP plugs in it before and it ran fine. Any one know if they are the wrong ones. they weren't cheep and will be pissed if I need to change them again. I keep getting a miss fire code as well. I first thought it was my coil so I replaced it with an Accel super coil. No change.

APP5144 is the SOHC autolite double plat plug.

The BS your ford dealer is pulling is BS....they can order the plugs and have you a full set in 1 day.

I'm a Bosh Platinum Guy to start with, and as soon as I saw the Quality of the E3's I was a bit sceptical. Poor quality in the porcelain and the standard fat electrode. I bought them with nothing to do with spike TV, it was more for the promise of better MPG. I just prey they stand by there money back guarantee.

I just got an e-mail from E3 and they told me that they recommend the E3.53 rather then the E3.54 because they are a cooler plug. The hotter E3.54 hight be causing a pre-ignition. I guess the only way I'm going to find out is if I replace the current plugs with new ones. I'm going to attempt to get the parts store to refund or replace the incorrect plugs.
