Straight pipe exhaust

I have a 2011 4.0 and I was considering running straight pipe exhaust. Does anyone know what my power loss, if any, would be? Also does anyone know the size of the stock exhaust tubing? The Google interface technological information device is not cooperating.

Sorry can't help you much, except most internal combustion engines rely on some back pressure to operate properly !

No idea how much HP you will lose, there is the computer... it will not be getting the proper codes, performance will suffer, and what about your Inspection Sticker !

Straightening the pipes as much as possible may help some but you need a muffler of some type.

Headers and a new high flow CATs and Mufflers will increase the HP and should fit as new without any of the hassle, then you can go Computer Chip reprogramming !

Luck with the straightening of the pipes.

Don't forget the pictures !

You will loose a lot of you low end torque. To be effective a truck needs low end power. A strait pipe will make you weak.

Motorcycles use drag pipes that are strait though. They only produce big power at the upper rpm at wide open throttle.

Thinking out of the box is good but as you did... ask questions before jumping in.

Headers alone will help, kind-of opens things up a bit and bring up the HP and some of the torque, depending on what headers you run, Truck need low rpm power, Torque, and these little engines in the Rangers are not high on torque to begin with. Any mod to add torque and give you a kick in the pants feel with work.

What gear ratio are you running in your axles(s) and what tire size are you using ?
A gear change will result in a Gian, especially if you are running oversized tires on stop gearing. One of the most expensive... QUICK fixes but good performance gains.

Also I can't find headers for my specific year anywhere. That being said I may have to either A find some for a different year and modify them, if needed, to fit or B make my own. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to automotive but I am a full time welder and fabricator so that helps lol

OK on the Stock gears and 31" tires.

When and IF you start thinking again about adding power, look into changing your gear ratio. I went from 4.10 gear ratio to 4.56 gear ratio (front and back, 33" tires) and my little 3.0 came alive.

Changing the ratio to a lower ratio, Higher Numerical, you bring the rpms up in the engine and allow the little engines to operate where they were suppose to and you will feel the increase in power.

Adding headers and performance exhaust can make an engine fall on its face if the rpms are up where they need to be.

Just something more to think about.

Enjoy the mods, think before jumping in !
