Swap from 94 Ranger to 94 B4000

Hi all,

I have a 94 B4000, my daily driver, that has been running on 5 cylinders for about a year now. Top end of the motor ticking really bad, and there is a knock in the lower end. Still gets me from A to B (without much power from a dead stop)

I found a 94 Ranger (4.0 L) with a blown trans. for cheap, with a good running motor in it. I am going to pick it up in a couple hours.

I am just assuming the swap will be identical, with no issues..

Which is why I am here: Will this motor plug-and-play into my B4000 or am I looking at any issues along the way?

No issues, plug and play

I would change the rear main seal, just because it's hard to get to.

Thanks! Yeah I'll maybe do that while I have it apart. I'm gonna look at my throw bearings as well, gets harder to shift after driving around for an hour.

The Ranger is an auto, and the B4000 is a standard. Haven't ever done a swap with an auto.. do I just take the clutch/flywheel off and put it on the other motor? No idea what is on the auto motor, or how it mounts up to an auto tranny.

Manual will use a Flywheel bolted to the crank shaft
Automatic will use a Flexplate bolted to the crank shaft

Yes you will need to remove your Flywheel and put it on the other crank shaft, at that time rear main seal can be seen and changed, under $15.

Good pictures here of what you will see: Transmission Swap (FM146 to M5OD) and Complete Clutch Upgrade

I can't remember if there is a spacer between crank and flexplate or crank and flywheel I seem to recall there was one, but can't remember on which one.
