My 2000 4.0 OHV has 173,000 miles and running strong.I have used Mobil 1 since 1,000 miles. It doesn't burn a drop of oil.I change the oil every 5,000 miles and it is always full before I change it.My goal is 300,000 miles,or more if it's still running strong.

198,000 on a 93 4x4 Splash driven moderately. Doesnt burn oil or anything, just a small leak at the rear main.

Love the 4.0's obviously they are good motors, look at everyone's opinion. I can't quite agree on the "as long as you take care of it" line, there are just some vehicles that are built poorly, however, the Ranger 4.0 is not one of them : )

if ur that worried, perform a compression test and clylindr leak down test. also check the oil pressure w/ a real guage.

my parents old aerostar 4L had 267000 before the main seal started to leak and they traded it in.
My exploder 4l had 140000 never had anything major done and it rang till some on pushed the motor throught the firewall. Now she wont turn over.... hmm wonder why
