ticking

I went mudding today. Once we got done i heard a slight ticking coming from under the hood but it goes away while in park. It's only while its in gear. So I had my friend put it in gear while I listened. It sounds like it's coming from the tensioner. Has anyone ever had this problem before?

It depends if it is a knock or a tick. I also managed to get a knock in my truck but it became more and more noticeable. It sounds as if the engine is knocking BUT it changes to the speed you drive, is common on cold mornings, and isn't like a pinging. I had my tensioner pulley replaced and the sound went away.

Alright, well, I'm starting to compile of a list of things that are getting fixed when I take my truck in for warranty work. Tensioner pully, oil pan gasket, rear pinion seal......It'll all get fixed at the same time.

try and hit the pully's with some pam cookin oil, that stuf is like majic, it usually takes all my noises away.(belt noises, leaf spring noises, suspension noises)..try it.

Didn't they fix this problem on newer trucks? My 01 Edge had 2 belt tensioners put on it, and the noise kept coming back....

I work at a ford dealer starting just last week and after talking to a few of the techs there this seems to be a pretty common problem and he told me not to worry about it.

Its more annoying than anything... Its definately the tensioner, because when we put it in gear it would surge it seems and move about 1/4" sideways, like it had more to tighten all of a sudden, making the clicking when it moves. I dont recall how much mine cost, but it wasnt much.
