Trouble shooting cam synchronizer,

I have a 98 ford ranger 4.0 auto.
I recently just resealed and rebuilt the trans mission myself. Here’s my problems
I cobbled this this together minus the engine and trans, now when I pulled the engine there was no cam synchronizer in the back of the block before I tore it down. I bought a two pin and installed a spare harness I had that was a two pin timed correctly with timing tool. Installed engine and trans mission and it’s started and runs fine but idles higher like 1000-1200 range not 800-900 like it used too and throws a p0340 everytime. Now I have a spare harness that is a three pin synchronizer off I believe an explorer has all the connectors I need should I try swapping out the two pin for a three pin? I have checked timing and it’s still there but throws the code maybe the ecu isn’t reading the same because I switched out for a two pin harness and sensor?

Ford switched Rangers from 3 wire to 2 wire in 1999, these are totally different sensors, Hall Effect(3) and Variable Reluctance(2)

So if computer is a 1998 then it probably wants/needs the 3 wire signal, especially if that was what was on 1998 wiring harness originally

As for the higher warm engine idle, wouldn't think Cam sensor issue

After warm up with engine idling, unplug the 2 wire connector on IAC Valve, RPMs should drop to 600 or so or engine may even stall, either is GOOD, no vacuum leaks
If idle doesn't drop then there is an air leak causing the higher idle

so I switched the harness back too the three pin and now it’ll start and run but the code is still being thrown,
I’ll dig in to what told me too for the fueling issue, if the timing was off would that make it run rich or lean?
