Ive heard from many many people running the newr rangers with 4.0's their getting over 400kms per tank. stock, and even with 33's.

My truck is barely getting 300 kms to a tank, when it was stock it was around 350, i understand with bigger tires its going to go down, but could there be other problems? I have NOT calibrated my speedo, would that make much difference? Im also lifted..

What are you guys getting as far as mileage? im not sure what my mpg would work out to as im in KMs not miles.

 

I have a 2005 4.0 5 spd 4x4 and I'm getting about 450-475km per tank. I'm stock right now except for dual magnaflow out the back. And I have 4.10 gears

 

if you dont calculate the % that youre speedo and odo is off due to the larger tire you will never get an accurate MPG reading.

My truck, '07 4.0 on 33's w/ 4.10s averages about 17.5 mpg (13.4L/100km). The best I've gotten from it is 21mpg (11.2L/100km). That was going fairly easy on it, straight highway for about 2 hrs. I don't know what it'll get out of a tank, I never run it down far enough to find out. Hope this helps!

edit: I should mention this is all info off my SG 2 after using it to adjust for bigger tire size.

change your spark plugs

my ford mechanic has a fx4 as well ,, and he said to switch over to the champion copper plus

he is getting just a little over 600 kms per tank ( mostly 90+ klicks per hour county road driving )

 

The only thing I will ever stick campion plugs in is my lawn mower. They are crap IMO.

The stock Motorcraft ones work fine for our trucks. Its not a higher perfomance engine, you'll get little to nothing out of changing the plugs.

And I am waving a HUGE BS flag on getting over 600 kms per tank. A frined of mine has the fleet model, 08, 2.3, 5 spd and he is lucky to get 570 to a tank. Thats withlike 99% highway too.

An airfilter change, plugs, oil, a good seafoaming, change the tranny oil, diff oil etc, will help ALOT in your milage.

Also, lay off the right foot alittle bit. Best thing about that, is its free.

It is honestly humbling when a new super duty can get better fuel mileage, towing a friggin trailer, on the highway, than we do stock.

Next time, I go fullsize.

I'm sorry but given the options out there you would have to be on crack to buy one of these trucks new right now.

 

I dont know i just sold my f-150 1997 and bought a 98 Ranger EXT:cab 4x4 4.0 and i can say my wallet is alittle more full.... Freakin insurance was to high on my f-150 still wish i had her but im not missing the 9 -10 mpg in town. i did also have the V8 Triton. In the winter i was lucky to get 8 mpg in town.

 

Mines a 2005 Edge Extra Cab 4x4 4.0L Auto with 3"BL 4.10's and 33's and I 've been getting around 17.5 - 17.0 MPG. Drive 25 miles each way to work and about 2/3 of that is highway.

About MPG, when I got my truck I went with another ranger when I wanted a fullsize mostly because I dont haul heavy stuff that often and wanted better mileage. but prolly wont do this next time (depending on what replaces the ranger) because most of my friends with fullsizes (ford,chevy and dodge- gas and diesel) get just as good and even better mileage than I get.

 

I have a bone stock 2002 4.0 lxt supercab and i get barely 250miles out of the tank (all city)...not sure what size the tank is...Maybe 17gal??? but if so thats only like 14.5miles per gallon....my 07 SRT8 300 gets better than that!!

 

well they have the mds system i think, that cuts out 4 cylinders when your not usin the pedal to much. my ranger gets about the same lol. i never really figured it out but i know its about 250-275 a tank and i get on it a lil bit.

 

my quote of 400 is driving very very conservatively, I also get about 300km to a tank on average.

it drops to about 280 when I'm towing a trailer. nothing special either just a small bass boat. ( I only do about 100kph)

In comparison, my buddies new not even broken in Ram gets 500km per tank towing a far heavier trailer doing about 120kph.

The thing that perplexises me is that where is all the gas going. I mean it makes no power, doesn't weigh much compared to a full size yet uses fuel like it has 500 hp and weighs 5000lbs more.

My guess is this is all due to fords total neglect of this platform for the past 10 years.

It's a shame, really.

 

In my 99 4.0 I'm averaging about 16 mpg, the best I've seen lately was 17!

 

4.0 98 hit E today did the math got 14 MPG Bone stock also im heavy on her too... And took her mudding this week.

 

Only the 5.7L Hemi has mds , not the SRT8

I took my girls ranger out and i managed 17 highway with a speedometer off by about 8 mph. So next step is dual exhaust and a tune.

 

Just checked the MPG without a speed-o recal, 3.0L/4.10/33s. got 18 mpg.

BUT, I’m thinking here that I actually went further than the odometer read, because the tires are larger, you go further one one rev of the tire, so had to go further right ?

18 will work for now, may gear up a little but not sure.

 

Right now I'm averaging 285 miles to the tank, and around 16.3ish mpg. As much as I love my ranger the gas mileage is getting a bit old now that I commute quite a bit to work!

 

i've got 3:73's and i'm getting anywhere from 500+ my best was march of 09 i got 627, july 08, i got 590. there have been a number of times where i've gotten 550-575 but most are between 500-550. even in the winter i'm still getting 450-500. of course depending on how much i use 4wd. we don't get alot of snow down here but we do get some.

 

that's impressive.

my best was 500 but I had to drive like a granny to get there.. the funny thing for me is that my winter numbers don't change. i average about 400 to a tank all the time.

at least there might be hope after looking at your numbers

 

the tanks where i get higher 500s is highway, the lower 500s to 550 is city and expressway. the manual also helps. when i forst got the truck, i drove 60kms/h in 5th. my rpms were sitting at right about 1k.
