What year 4.0l engines fit my 1994 4x2?
I have a 1994 Ranger with blown head gaskets. I have a 4.0L motor from a 1992 Explorer that I want to put in my Ranger. Both VIN numbers have 8th digit "X". I'm told they are the same motor, but serpentine belt is different and routed differently as well. Can I use this motor ?

1990 to 2000 4.0l OHV engine will work, same block
You may have to change upper and maybe lower intake to match sensor placement/wiring
You will want to keep your current accessory arrangement, i.e. the fan belt pulleys, they will all bolt to 1992 block and heads.
Unless engine was run with coolant in the oil, toasting the bearings, it would be better to fix head gaskets or replace cracked heads than doing an engine swap.
Faster and easier, plus you know the history of the 1994 engine, 1992 4.0l is an unknown
