2002 3.0 v8 swap

2002 ford ranger edge auto trans 2wd. How much for v8 swap? Looking to go mostly junkyard parts lol. Can someone make a nice list of things I will need and what car/year/engine I'd need. Thanks

You need to buy a 1996 to 2001 Ford Explorer with V8(5.0l) engine, 2WD if possible, but 4x4 is OK you will just need to trade out transmission for 2WD model and sell the 4x4 trans and transfer case
The V8 Explorer will give you almost ALL the stuff you need, can't use 2002 or up explorers

Good article to read here: https://www.therangerstation.com/Mag..._v8_swap.shtml

The 2000 Ranger will be very close to the 2002 Ranger as far as this swap, just skip over the 4x4 stuff as that won't be an issue for your 2wd, and NO, you can't change yours to 4WD

You can often find rusted out V8 explorers with reasonably good engines and transmissions but up to you on rebuilding engine and/or transmission

can i get parts from multiple other explorers in the range of 1996-2001? Instead of a whole car?

That stuff is all up to you

I would look for private sellers in craigslist or autotrader that have RUNNING 1996-2001 explorers for the swap
But yes, of course, you can piece anything together

Only thing that needs to MATCH is 1998-2001 V8 Computer and it PATS module(and at least one key), 1996/7 didn't have PATS but hard to find these because of that

You need to read the article, that will give you a parts list

Yea true because most likely i won't be able to see if the car runs at a junkyard. But i did find one with 70k miles for 1000 from a private seller. Seems to good to be true honestly.

Well a 20 year old vehicle is not worth alot, especially SUV's, pickup trucks hold value longer
Interior could be trashed or there is rust around the body
Most People pay more for "looks" and disregard mechanical issues, its a "vanity" thing, but that's good for you since the "looks" of the explorer doesn't matter at all

What if its all wheel drive? I will have to find a 2wd trans? Will everything else be the same like computer and stuff? The one for 1000 with 70k miles is good *** deal if its works

Yes, you would need to get/trade for a 2WD automatic, either would be a 4R70W model trans, so plug and play, same wiring
2WD or 4WD(AWD) doesn't matter to engine Computer, its the same, no change needed

well the guy sold the explorer with 70k miles on it. So im most likely gonna have to go to a junkyard. If its not low mileage i will most likely be rebuilding an engine. Im gonna need assistance from the forum. I have no idea how to rebuild...
