289 V8 Swap

I have a 88 Ranger that I'm working on dropping a 289 in. I'm currently in the process of rebuilding the 289. I've pulled the dead engine and transmission out and have ordered the swap kit that includes motor mounts, oil pan, oil filter relocation kit, headers, frame pad kit and radiator. I also have a C4 transmission that's ready to go. I'm wondering about what to do with the rear end. I ultimately was thinking a Ford 9" but not sure how thats gonna work with my budget. Any suggestions? My roommate was thinking a fox body rear end and doing the 5-lug conversion, will this work? Thanks

1986 and newer v8 mustangs used the 8.8"

1983-1997 Ford Ranger V6 often had the 8.8" 28 spline Limited Slip, width 56-1/2 inches, which should bolt right in to your '88.

How's this going ?

Why did you pick the 289, just wondering ?
I like the 289 was even thinking of this swap myself a while back.
