I have an 04 ranger edge. All I keep seeing in the forums are swaping a 4.6 explorer engine. Could I not go with a GT engine frome the same year as my truck?

 

Not many people are swapping in the 4.6 from explorers... Mostly 5.0s from 01 and earlier exporers. That is a very easy swap on 03 and earlier rangers. However, in 04, te rangers wiring was completely redesigned, and there really isn't and "easy" way to do it. Any ford engine is possible I suppose, but there is going to be a ton of work to do. However, if I was going to do an engine swap, I would stick with the 5.0 (so im a little biased), but that is simply because it will physically bolt directly into your truck with the 5.0 explorer mounts. The biggest headach would be the wiring. But with the 4.6, you would have to make mounts, custom this and that such as radiator, AC box, ect, ect, ect... and then the wiring. So, myt advice, if you really want a V8, go with the 5.0.
