4R70W w/ ranger BW transfer case??

I have a question about this topic.. Why did they make 2 different size adapters for this adapter kit? I believe it was a 5 inch and 9 inch.... From thier website it looks like they dont make the 5 inch adapter anymore, just the 9 inch.

Will this 9 inch adapter kit work on my truck using my 1350 BW transfer case when i use the 99 5.0L explorer motor/4R70W transmission combo without having to modify mounting points and driveshafts?

If anyone has done the explorer 5.0 swap in thier ranger and used this adapter your help would be much appreciated, thanks!!

That's the adapter I used for my aod. The 9" was the correct length for my application. It's very important to maintain the original location of the t/c - or you will have to have the front driveshaft modified.

yes I believe the 5" was for older applications, but I could be wrong. That kit is for the AOD, but says it works with the AODE aka 4R70W as well, but just reminds you that the output shaft is different as far as how it gets oiled and then it starts to tell you somthing and its cut off. So yes its will mount to your 4R70W but you may want to call them and get the full details cause their site trails off not telling you everything.

This is why I went will the beefy BW4406. I think I was able to do that and my new d-shafts for the price of the adapter maybe a little more.

Agreed - using stock tailshaft / housing and getting a 4406 with custom shafts is better money spent than the AA kit with 1354. 4406 is HUGE compared to 1354!

Ive got the 1354 and like it a lot. There are better things about the 1354 over the 4406. First of all, the 4406 wont work with your stock drive shafts and it also ha a rear slip yoke which is generally frowned upon. I have the 1354 in my truck with the same drivetrain as what you are doing, and have had NO Problems at all with it, and I 4 wheel and beat on the truck a lot, more than you ever will. Also, the 1354 will fit right in the ranger with no mods, where as the 4406 is a PITA to get between the frame rails. One last thing, since your trans is a 2wd unit, you are going to have to change the tailhousing and output shaft anyway, might as well change it to one that will work with the 1354, then you can use the T-case you already have. It will be cheaper in the long run when you consider having new driveshafts made, and this combo will be plenty strong. I will try and measure my AA adapter tomorrow when I get home and let you know which one I have.

well there is always good and bad sides of doing swaps like this but I reallllllly don't want to go through the hassle in making new drive shafts and squeezing a transfercase that doesn't belong.

this adapter will simplify things for me and little to no modifications is needed for me to makes this work and I like this option so I think ill stick with it. thanks for all the info guys.

This is the main reason im keeping my 1354 TC. Now the AA adapter kit comes with the new output shaft and tailhousing so my 1354 TC will mate up with the 4R70W transmission so ill have everything i need to make this work :)

Do they still make the adapter kit, for the 4r70w-bw1354 or do I have to get into the different transfer cases?
