99 5.0 swap
So I have been searching around for a 302/5.0L to swap into my std cab 1988 ranger (carbureted 2.0L), and have come across a 1999 ford explorer with a EFI 5.0L in good condition. I know that the swap is possible and am going on Wednesday to check the engine out and likely purchase it (info that it is in good condition from a friend).
My question, is there anything I need to know before starting the swap about going from EFI to carb or any pointers that can be recommended (intake/heads/cam/distributor gear issues)? I have reviewed and read extensively multiple threads from this site and others about the swap but just wanting to make sure I'm not missing anything obvious. Thanks.

If you are going to use a carb and distributor then why use an explorer V8?
You don't need the computer or wiring which is kind of the point of getting the whole explorer so you get all that in one package
You just need a 302/5.0l preferably with carb and distributor already on it, $500-$900 used
If you want an automatic trans then you need the AOD, no computer needed, $500-$800 used, rebuilt $1,400
NOT an AOD-E that needs a computer
Manual trans would be 1997-2003 M5OD-R2(M5R2) from an F-150 with 4.2l V6, fits the 302/5.0l and has shifter in correct position for Ranger use
And thats all you really need
EDIT
OK You may have miss spoke on this..........."anything I need to know before starting the swap about going from EFI to carb"
Do you mean from "Carb to EFI"?
If so then yes you want the whole explorer
You will need high pressure EFI fuel pump
The rest of the stuff comes with explorer

The main reason for going with the explorer engine is because the engine is already out of the vehicle (veh has been hauled off already and junked) and is in good condition for an amount under what you quoted it would cost me.
And since I am wanting to keep my ranger carb'ed, I will need to take the EFI setup/intake/wiring off and discard it. I was looking for any specific pointers or advice I should look out for when going about the "EFI to carb" conversion on the engine, not my truck in particular since its already set up for carb.
I apologize for any confusion in my first post.
You should be able to sell the EFI intake and wiring harness, so keep it
