I've looked. Probably not well enough, but what I put in the search section didn't pull up what I needed to know. So, I thought I would just ask people who knew. Simple question, "What is the best V8 donor for a 2.5L 1998 XLT?" I think the closest I've found is a 99 Explorer...
But can I go older and not have to deal with PATS?

I saw Mr. Cobb's user name. its little bear, and i was watching the show. I dont know i found that kinda funny.
Is it almost a direct swap? I hear that I'ma need new engine mounts because of the size of mine...and cuz I'm coil sprung instead of torsion bars? Do you think it'll be cheaper to do by myself with the little bit of knowledge I have with engines and the help of all these wonderful forums? Or just take it to a mechanic and let him do it?
i haven't done one but i do know that the information is out there. there are some members on here and a few other sites that would be of some help to you.
i do know from what i have read, it's a pretty simple and straight forward swap to do.
lastly, do it yourself if you can, don't bring it somewhere. if you can weld that's a plus.

Do it yourself, its a good project. Wiring-wise its almost drop in with a few changes. Motor mount wise, your coil spring suspension complicates things a bit. However, one of the members here (forget who, someone else will probably tell you) designed adaptors for the 4 liter motor mounts. They sell the plans for a small fee.

What's the say on headers? The stock headers are too big arent they? Do I have to spend the 700 bucks on the torque monsters or can i just go to some run of the mill shop and get it done for cheap cheap? Are there any mechanics out there that know what headers consist of?
