I have a 2005 4x4 xlt with a 4.0L and 5 speed. The engine started to make very loud valve train noises today... If I cant fix it by replacing a cylinder head I am going to be swapping the engine anyways.
My question is this, can I even do a 5.0L swap in my truck? I have heard of problems with the PATS system when doind the swap. My other question is would it be easier to put in a 4.6L?
The mechanical partnis not my concern. It's the electrical and computer stuff that I don't know about. Somebody please help me!!

Not your timing chain(s), or whatever is the common noise maker on 4.0's?
You'll need to check with Ontario laws regarding engine swaps, you may need one of equal or new year, rulling out the 5.0 (which can be swapped into your year with a bit of extra work).

It is possibly the chain but I doubt it. The sound s from the back of the engine on the driver side. I would love to do a 4.6 swap but it's the electronics I don't know about
