I PICKED UP A 5.0 FOR MY 86 2WD RANGER AND WAS GUNNA USE THE STOCK RANGER TRANNY WITH A DUAL FRICTION CLUTCH. MY QUESTION IS HOW LONG DO YOU THINK THE RANGER TRANNY WILL LAST WITH JUST A STOCK 5 LITER?

 

PROBABLY NOT TOO LONG IF YOUR GOING TO SMACK ON THE GAS PEDAL ALOT, BUT IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A STANDARD DRIVE BY THING WITHOUT TOO MUCH OFFROADING< WHATEVER TRANNY YOU CAN FIND THAT WILL WORK WELL WITH IT AND HOOKUP RIGHT SHOULD DO THE TRICK< YOU"LL GET A DECENT AMOUNT OF HORSEPOWER BUT IT SHOULDNT BE ENOUGH TO SNAP ANYTHING IN THE TRANNY.

ummm... i don't think the ranger trans will bolt to the 5.0

it might but i don't think so.

 

well....i think the case will split in half with the way I drive. You'll probably be snapping input shafts in no time.

 

haha alright im just gunna go with a T5 out of the mustang just to be on the safe side.
