Need help with 99 Ranger with VSS and non return fuel lines
Hey guys I have the 3.0 out of my 99 Ranger and am currently at a stand still. I was told the 5.0 engine I'm installing was from a 99 explorer as well but upon further inspection, it has a return fuel rail. What do you all suggest to fix this? I didn't want to mess with a new fuel sending unit and return lines so I figured I could just get a 99-01 computer and a non return fuel rail and swap them. Is this possible or am I missing something?
Also since thisis am older engine than what I thought, my Ranger has the speed sensor in the diff and the computer on 98 and older explorers receive their signal from the transmission/transfer case. Would using the newer computer fix this issue as well?
Thsnks for any and all help!

I think sliding back the bed and swapping out fuel pump assembly would be easier, but yes, you can switch system over to Returnless the way you described
The Returnless does have a return line on the fuel filter, but.........it does have a pressure regulator on that line in the tank, so "in theory" you could by-pass that regulator so return just dumps into the tank, and switch fuel filter to 2 port
Explorers used 4 Wheel ABS module to convert rear Axle VSS to 8,000ppm Speed signal, until 2002 then the Explorer computer used the OSS on transmission to generate 8,000ppm signal
So up to 2001 Explorer V8 computer should be fine to use
Your 1999 Ranger uses the GEM module for the same thing, rear axle sensor to 8,000ppm, unless it also has 4WABS, then it uses same setup as Explorer, 2001 and up Ranger computers started using OSS
