Been looking to possibly do a V8 swap on my 96 4.0 and am just starting the research part. Found this ad when doing a quick search-

i have a 1990 ford 302 out of a lincoln lsc for sale. its the same 5.0 ho that the mustangs use. i have all the accessories, an accel super coil, the full wiring harness, distributor, etc. complete intake manifold to oil pan. 91k ran great when pulled a couple months ago. asking $450 obo, email me for pics. i also have the flexplate, torque converter, and a set of headers to go with it.

Would this be a good swap? It appears everything is there, would stuff plug up etc as I have read. Any way to adapt it to current tranny? If not what tranny would I have to run? Would like to put a manual behind it.

You've got a lot of reading to do, check RPS and TRS. All your questions have been answered on here within the last month.

 

your best bet is to take a 5.0 from an explorer of the same year as your truck

 

The lincoln motor would be great for your truck. Its a really stout roller motor that makes good torque out of the box. In your 94 it will fit pretty well. You will still need some different parts to make everything fit such as a dual sump oil pan, oil filter relocator, and headers. The wiring harness from the lincoln will not plug and play with your truck, but the wiring isnt' that bad to do on it. Your setup would be quite similar to mine. As for transmissions depends if you want 4 wheel drive or not. You could run a T5 for 2wd, or an M5 for 4x4. I'm not sure if there is anything special you would need for the M5 though. There is no way to adapt the new motor to your trans, plus it wouldn't last long anyway with the higher power output.

 

That's a pretty simple swap in my view. But the wiring is not going to be a direct bolt in but it's still not too difficult though. As far as using the stock tranny, it aint happening for 2 reasons. The first is because Advance adapters no longer makes the parts needed to mate the stock tranny to the V8. The second reason is the stock tranny can't handle the power of the V8. It will look like gerbils crawled into a box of solid newspaper and started chewing things up. That's what that stock tranny would look like after a short period of time. Even if you rebuilt to handle the power you would've been able to buy at least 2 brand new trannies when it's all said and done. Basicly I'd use the search button in here, and go to the following websites: www.v8ranger.com , Ranger V8 Conversion , www.therangerstation.com . and summit has a swap kit availible up to the year of 1997. I have a 2003 Ranger XLT with the 3.0L V6 and i want to put in a 5.0L. But i was wondering if anyone had any info on the emissions laws in Georgia regarding engine swaps i cant find the regulations anywhere i know the engine has to be the same year or newer but is there anything else i need to do to make it pass. Thanks for any help.

 

I don't know Georgia for sure, but usually when you have to have a swap engine from the same year or newer you have to keep all of the engines factory emissions controls on the motor. Does Georgia have emissions testing?

 

yeah they use to put on a dyno looking deal but now they just plug into the computer and look underneath to make sure theres cats installed
