Project: 302 Ranger

I have a 2000 For Ranger. What I want to do is take a 302 from a Maverick and drop it in my ranger. I know it can be done but what do I need to do to make it happen? Any links to build logs would be helpful!

Biggest things are:
Wiring
Parts List

Are you thinking of keeping the Carb or going EFI ?
Unless you are thinking big horse power the EFI engine will run better and adapt to any little mods you might want to do.
EFI Harnesses are readily available, pricey but it makes things easier.

There are plenty of Explorer/5.0L Swap threads and How-To's on this site and other Ranger sites.

I would swap to EFI. It just makes things easier, look into emissions laws also when you say a mavrick I think late 70's/early 80's and you might not be able to legally do so. They might require a motor of the same production year or newer. In that case it would limit your choices of donor vehicles.

Thinking a little more about ^^^^^ posting, the heads on the Mavrick will need to be changed, No-Lead gas will be a problem for them.

don't know much about carb as i'm 32 and EFI was introduced to the majority of fords in 84/85.

regardless if the heads need to be swapped, if the motor doesn't pass smog where he is from then its useless to swap it in. most DMV's would look at the engine casting numbers to see what year it was.
