I originally wanted to swap a 302 into my 03 RWD Ranger but then I heard that I wouldn't be able to because of emission but then read somewhere it doesn't matter if I just update the engine's emissions. I'm just wondering if anyone definitely knows the state laws for RI off hand

I'm sure you DMV would be able to tell you best or an emissions tester. All we can do it google it.
