hi i have a 97 ranger 4 banger 5 speed and wanted to do a 302 conversion and was thinking about getting a 97 explorer or mountaineer if i used everything i could form them what else would i need that doesn't come on the explorer

 

Not to be the bad guy here, but if you scroll through the v-8 tech threads, you will find your answer.

Most of what you need i believe will work, But i have heard that 99-01 explorers work better due to the fuel system.

Depends on what you want to do with it. I would get any 302 really, and I would personally look for a mexican block one. What hp goals do you have, and do mpg matter. Older 302s have more nickle in the blocks and they last longer and are stronger. I could give you some pointers if I knew what direction to point you in.

 

U gonna do a 5 speed conversion? Auto? Carbed? a 95-98 Explorer will match the fuel system of your Ranger, I am unsure about the 99-01. You will need Mustang motor mounts, oil filter relocation kit, Daul sump pan, miscellaneous nuts and bolts(so keep everything off the Expo), Electric Fans, Shortened Drive shaft, Welder and some minor fabrication skills. I personally did a 97 swap into a 96 Ranger and my thread is in the V8 section.
