Is this worth it?...

well just gona run this by some of you, i know a 4.6 V8 is a ***** to get in, but..

i can get a 98 4.6 with 64k on it for 500$, that seems like a perty good deal. now if i can find the time to get the custom work done to get it in and running, i think that would be badass..

idk maybe its impossible, but a little cutting here, some custom headers there, and in theory itd work

idk, just running future ranger plans through my head

i know that, im saying, oh yes major work to cram it in. but ive got people to help, and tools to do it.

wouldnt major work involve cutting wells etc, moving radiator up or in back, elec. fan, custom headers, new crossmember fabing etc. if i get a car, i would mind a sweet project.. trany would be the only weird thing to fit, and auto or manu.

idk its just thoughts

Yes it is, much wider.. Is it the truck or mustang 4.6L?? Just make sure it has the newer upper intake manifold- there was a TSB out for the 96-98 4.6L SOHC intake because it would tend to crack up towards the front.

Andy it'd be a sweet motor but I think the downside is the relative easy that the exploder 5.0 would go in.

Think about it, mustang computer you'd need(unless exploder would work). Then you need driveshafts. Can you mount tcase to it if it comes with tranny? You're gonna need aAOD or 5 speed tranny.

okay okay,

this is what youd really need done. for a 4.6 swap you wouldnt have to move the firewall. you may have to give up a/c but you could just roll down the windows or use the a/c from from an e150 and find a place for it or even just move the compressor and whatnot to the bed. run extra long lines and youve got a/c. tuck your radiator under the core support and your got TONS of room for the 4.6. with all factory shiaaht in place. youd need custom headers and a custom driveshaft. the gas tank coud be scrapped for a bronco 2 tank where your spare tire is (fr added traction) or just leave it. im not sure whether youd be able to keep it or not. one way to find out though isnt there, lol. tranny from a cougar or a lincoln mark would work. cluster gauges could prove problematic but there are ways around that. a new rear endd would be nice too.

so to answer you question, its worth it but you may come out better buying the entire vehicle. and youd have to have TONS of time to do this. may 3x the time it takes for a 5.0. not to mention the benefit of being able to swap in a 5.4 at a later time since youve already got the brackets for the 4.6.

This is a '98 4x4 with a Mustang 4.6. I don't have any details of what he had to do though.

SAme engines when all the crud is removed!

I'm thinkin exploder 5.0, then i'll sell your stuff(but i'll tell you it got stolen) to pay off the supercharger.

Plus with your mustang aren't you gonna be stuck 2wd? That's why i wanna do exploder.

Lets see if we can somehow find some ****in superchargers, maybe off of older stangs..

Hey Andy I figured I'd put the engine on an engine jack thingie(ya know that you store em on) and upgrade a bunch of the internals. I was looking at RPS at the threads where people show upgrades. It seems they come stock in explorers weaker but the mustang isn't exactly insanely built. So i could probably upgrade the engine for less. If i could pay off a supercharger w/ monthly payments i'd think about it :-)

I think this is why most people don't try it. a 302 can be a tight fit...

4.6 on left and 302 on right...

go with the 285 horse exploder setup that drops in ..... or struggle to swap a 260 horse 4.6 in.... plus the mod motors have no torque, and you won't find many parts for a 4.6 at your local back woods just off the trail parts house either..... lets not get into tranny options... i'll take the 302....lol
