93 ranger stock radio only works full blast

i have a 1993 ford ranger and thr factory radio cuts in and out at low volumes, but if you turn the volume up all the way it plays fine, with no crackle. i have torn it down several times and dont see anything wrong, no burnt connections or loose wires. could it be a bad solder somewhere? i have found that if you tap around on the insides of it, it play and the cut out.

could be the actual volume ****, also known as a potentiometer. it's weird the way it works but the contacts inside the potentiometer might be separating. if you really want it fixed, find a crapped out one, remove all the solder cleanly, and replace the volume ****.
