97 ranger after market stereo switch out

My old 97 ranger bit the dust and I ended up finding a new one, this time it's an xlt 4x4. The new trucks stereo is pretty messed up so I'm switching it out with the old trucks stereo. But I have run into an issue with adapters and a bit lost now (see photos). Is there a way to take the black adapter that's still in the old truck and replace the adapter in the new truck for the stereo to fit? Thanks.

Adapter in the new 97.

Adapter attached to the stereo from old 97

In the 2nd pic I can see the splices in the background
So not a factory radio I am guessing?

Ranger radio wiring diagrams here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...diagrams.shtml

Most years had at least TWO different systems, a basic and a premium
You will need to know which one was in the "new" Ranger in order to match "old" Rangers radio to it

That's not an "adapter" its the Ford factory plug

Looks like this 1996/7 diagram: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...dio_Wiring.pdf

Wire colors match up so that's the 8 pin speaker connector, should be another 8-pin "power" connector as well, but only has 5 wires

If your "new" Ranger has a 16-pin radio connector then you need a different "kit" adapter, or you will need to start matching and splicing wires
Also may mean you have a separate amplifier under the dash somewhere, so you will need to by-pass that if your radio has built in amplifier
