Amp and Sub with Stock Headunit - Need some help

Ok I'm so confused over this entire subject. I've heard of things like line out converters and speaker level inputs and all this stuff but have no clue what it means. Can someone break it down for me into simple terms, with some links to different products and stuff. You can IM me too if that would make it easier.

Speaker level input means that the input is ready for amped signal. Like you can plug in the speaker wire that are already amped from the stock or aftermarket stereo in this input.

Preamp inputs are inputs that are ready for signal that in not amped by a stock or aftermarket stereo. You will get cleaner sound using preamp inputs.

A converter like this will take the amped signal and run it through capacitors to quiet the signal so it doesn't get to the preamp inputs amped. I have done it this way before and the signal is way too loud for the preamp input and it causes distortion.

Yeah thats the line out converter that I found on Crutchfield. I just don't know what all I need. So if I want to amp my speakers and then have a seperate amp for a sub, is that possible on the stock headunit?

So what you would do in your case you would run the speaker wires to a converter like this and then run RCA cables from the converter to the amp(s). All you will get from using this type of converter is front and rear outputs. It will not give you a dedicated sub output.

You can also spend more money and get a better converter or vehicle specific one to clean the sound up more and it also gives you better adjustability of the sound. http://www.crutchfield.com/g_318850/...-.html?tp=6870

To amp your speakers and a sub from that converter you are going to have to split the rear rca cables and run one set to the sub amp and another to the rear speaker amp. Make sure you set the sub amp crossover to low pass so it blocks the midrange from getting to the sub.

So I think if I go with this: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...36REQ5&tp=6870

I'll be good to go, it has a front, rear and sub output.
