Aux in for Ipod

Ok, so I've been through all the write ups:

(Sambuchi.net : Ford Ranger MP3 Radio aux Input MOD)
(Ford Ranger MP3 Radio AUX Input MOD - Hacked Gadgets - DIY Tech Blog)

I plan on doing this modification on Saturday to get my iPod to play through the CD player. A question I had, kinda a general question, Should I solder in a Long Male 3.5mm cable coming out of the dash or solder a female 3.5mm port to sit in the dash?

I figure that it'd be easier to bring a male connector out of the dash to plug into a headphone port since they are most common on all devices...

Input please?

the female port would look a little cleaner but what you could do with the male connector is run it behind the dash and into the ashtray so when youre not using it you can put it in the ashtray and its out of sight

I was thinking of running the cable to the glove box and leaving my iPod cable in there while not using it.

Something I really wanna do is solder a USB connection in. hot to hot, ground to ground and then L and R to the line outs on the deck. That way it charges and plays. Still investigating exactly how to do this...
