Broke my antenna

I broke my antenna off at a do it yourself car wash. The hose caught it and snapped it clean at the base. I tried using a replacement antenna from the parts store, but none of the adapters fit right.

I've found that you can pop the round cover off the base and get to three screws, but I haven't gone any farther than that yet.

If I remove the screws and pull the base up, can I remove and replace just the top end or do I have to buy the entire assembly cable and all?

This should about the same as you have on the 2005 model
| Repair Guides | Exterior | Antenna | AutoZone.com

Usually antenna bases come with cable permanently attached so yes you would replace cable and base at the same time.

You can splice antenna cable using the correct ends and coupler
Google: "Coax Cable splicing"

Simply twisting the wires together doesn't work well with coax cables, a coax cable is a "wave guide", the radio signal travels on the outside edge of the center wire, and the white plastic surrounding the center wire holds the ground, mesh wires, at a specific distance from the center wire to prevent signal loss and blocks other frequencies from entering.

Thanks for the info. I figured I'd end up replacing the whole thing, cable and all. I just hate getting into the dash. Lol

I'll swing by autozone and see if they have one in stock. I'm a computer tech by trade, so I have access to a coax splicer if I have to go that route too.

Thanks again.
