Icon11 Deck or speakers?

Hey all, just upgraded from a used '07 to a new 2011 Sport 4x4. No premium sound options were available for 2011 model. In the '07, the combined deck and speakers sounded like music was coming out of a cardboard box... always hated that. This system is a notch better, so I'm wondering did they upgrade the deck or are there better speakers installed?

If the deck is better now (this one has mp3) then that would be good news... I'd rather just upgrade the speakers. All I'm going for is no boxy sound... don't need sub and all that jazz. Commute is only 25 mins.

thanks for the input.

The deck is what makes the speakers IMO. I'd get a deck then speakers then amp the speakers lol

k... i firgured speakers would be a good upgrade, but didn't know if the factory speakers were already rated for better decks. Some people know specs of factory decks and speakers, so thought I'd ask first. Speakers it is.

the deck first definatlly the stock speakers can handle the extra output of the deck just adding speakers to the stock deck wont really do anything at all

Yeh i upgraded my deck and still rocking the stock speakers for the time being, deffintley made a improvement, a stock deck wont really push aftermarket speakers to their potential

thanks for the advice folks... futureshop had a sale on 3-way pioneers, so i picked up two pair. Can't get them installed till next week though. Will post again with my verdict. As long as the 'boxy' sound goes away i'm happy... don't wanna spend any more than i have to for decent sound. thanks again...

I bought a pair of Infinity Kappa 682.9cf 5"x7" coaxial speakers for the front and Memphis Power Reference 5"x7" coaxial speakers for the rear and couldn’t be happier. Simply put, the difference is night and day. They have clear, crisp sound, don't distort at high volumes, and handle low to heavy bass very well. This is with a premium factory headunit.

Got them installed yesterday. Marked improvement over stock speakers... boxy sound is gone. Happy camper now.
