I was thinking about that bedliner stuff or some other textured spray. you should post some pics of your box on here, i'd like to see your design and the final product.
yeah just jump in, start small if you don't like it then so be it, but if you do then you just opened yourself up a whole new set of oppertunities.

i know you already posted a sound clip vid on it but lets hear it from you and what you know...over all how does it sound? is it still distorted? is it clear and crisp? does punch hard? and you said your new box sounded better than you sealed one...did it have the same cubic space? how does it sound better? clearer, deeper? lol sorry for all the Q's but im just tryin to learn as much as possible, i got a 92 and the jump setas fold out of the ext cab part so im gonna mod it to fold open like the new rangers and put my sub in the space of the jumpseat.

Well, a sealed box will control the cone more, becuase the air inside cannot move in and out of the box. A sealed box will give the bass a cleaner, smoother sound. Like a pluck on a jazz bass guitar or a boom from a kickdrum.
A ported box may sound distorted if it isn't tuned correctly. And, in retrospect, it can sound really awesome if it is! A ported box will give you a louder, harder slam from your bass. Like a bass hit from an explosion, or a pop from a snare.
It all really depends on what you like to listen to.

The old sealed box was around .85 cu/ft just above the reccomended. This new one is hovering on the 2 cu/ft mark and tuned to 32 hz. Compared to the sealed this one actually sounds cleaner, and hits much harder. You also have to keep in mind that i am only pushing this thing with a p250.2 amp from rockford. That means that max i am sending about 260 watts to the sub. I have placed the enclosure and sub in the back of my friend's suburban and hooked it up to a 600 watt. amp (Kinda wanted to see if i could blow this sub, was thinking of gettin a new one). I was very impressed with the P2's power handleing capabilites. Under power it pounded like no other Plenty to fill a suburban moderatly. The sound was clear and deep. it basicly made up my mind that i need to upgrade my amp.
I am very happy with this enclosure and sub combo. If you want to know anything else about it, feel free to ask. good luck man

well there are equations all over the net that can help you to decide what and how to port a box. The main thing is knowing the exact volume of the box that you're trying to port. I used a bunch of packing peanuts to find mine. I'll try and find the equation that i used to get the dimentio:ns for the port that i needed.

Oh, btw, how did you secure your subwoofer? I tried T-Nuts and they didn't go into the birch... Then I tried the other type of T-nuts and glued them in, but the glue broke hold. Now, I'm trying some screw-in threaded inserts. They seem like they'll work better, but I haven't put them to the test, yet.

i just used the screws that came with the sub and drove them into piolet holes that i predrilled. With six of them it holds the sun in there very securely, also i put a little ring of weather sealer around the bottom of the sub before the install and now it is nice and snug along with being air tight, no leaks

Well, I think my dad tossed them out, or w/e cause I couldn't find them anywhere or I would've used them. Although I do like to take things apart and modify them all the time, so I like to use bolts on mine...lol.
I think I might use a ScanSpeak SSV "aperiodic vent" in my box, cause it is kinda small... although I'm sure it's big enough, I like a really low Qtc. I usually build them between .54 and .7

tell me about it, i'm not done with this one and already i want to upgrade to a 12" setup. I have built two other boxes for friends and now find myself looking for people that are looking for equipment and see if they need an encosure built. It is addictive, and your right about always finding another way to do something.

the box itself is in there nice an tight. It fits the floor very well and is held in place by the mount for the seatbelt for the center of the 40/60 split seat. it doesn't want to go anywhere.
