help fiberglassing
I am done constructing the frame of my box and have laid 2 layers of fiberglass. I think I am going to put on 1 or 2 more layers. What do I do after laying the fiberglass? Do I just start putting on the body filler? I bought some short stranded fiberglass filler and some Rage Gold, but im not really sure what the difference is?

i didnt see anything on you laying the fleece around the box make sure you did that. Lay about 5-6 layers of glass on there let dry for a good 12-24 hours then bondo it or use rage gold. Then sand. This is the part thats gonna take AWHILE sanding a box to perfection is a PITA. Goto an autobody supply store and grab some grrr whats it called, the stuff the use to fill bondo i cant think of the name of it.

spandex wont hold alot of resin. You need fleece or some kind of cotton because itll absorb alot of resin. That spandex stuff is most likely thin and the resin wont hold onto it well even though it may seem. Id goto like a fabric store and get some fleece and re wrap it so its stronger and seals better

well what you use for the base material really dosnt matter a whole lot after you get the fiberglass down. Yes, its fine to start back up on laying glass tomorrow, and i would get atleast 5-6 layers down before you continue. After you have let the glass fully cure i take that short strand reinforced filler and lay a nice layer over the entire glass surface. Once that cures grind it down to get close to the final profile. By then you should have a surface that is very close to what you want. Mix up some rage and add enough resin to it to make it like a thick soup. Spread this mixture over the entire thing and then try and sand as much as you can in the green stage. I generally do this one more time then hit it with bondo pinhole filler. From there it is primer, sand primer, sand, primer, sand, as much as it takes. Good luck and lets see some pics.

i based it off of the design that Lone Ranger made. I looks pretty good right now. I have 5 coats on right now and I think tomorrow i will start with the short strand stuff. I had to modify it because my seats come out of the side of the x cab. SO i made a piece to cover the opening. Thanks for all the help. Ill post pics when I get my camera. thanks for all the help guys. Especially Lone Ranger he knows his stuff.
