how to take out head unit

how to take out head unit

i am replacing my stock head unit with a new one how do i take the stok one out?

finishing nails jammed into the 4 pin holes.. then press all four outwards, and pull.. its harder, but works all the same..

Some people use nails or a rebent hanger but you can get the tools at WalMart and elsewhere for about $3.99.

If you want to, this way is a little more involved but you dont need to have any special tools or anything.

Take out the bezel by removing the 2 7mm bolts underneath the radio, and then pull the bezel from the dash. It's held in with pressure clips. Remove the clips that run to all your accessories (cig lighter, 4x4 switch, fog lights, etc.) so you can work with it a little easier. you'll see there are some metal clips on the side of the ford cd player that hold it in. Press them in and you can get the cd player out. takes some finagling, but it is easier than trying to get it out without removing the bezel

by outwards, i mean push each tool, or nail away from the sides.. both left side holes, push towards the steering wheel, both right side holes, push near the passengerside door
