This will officially be the last post I ever make on this forum (*edit: less pissed off now and cannot give up ranger-forums). I find it to be way too coincidental that the day after I post about my stereo install, someone tries to steal my stereo out of my truck. Thankfully, whoever the shameless ******* is was unable to do anything besides break a set of rca wires. The police just came by and took a copy of my surveillance video and are sending someone by to take prints. You'd better hope that your prints are not on record and that no one recognizes your dumb ***. You're lucky I forgot to turn on my alarm otherwise I would have shot you dead in my driveway. Come try it again. I'm waiting for you.

I find it extremely suspicious that they didn't try to take my head unit. They went straight for my amp rack that was completely hidden behind my seats. Its a good thing I bolted the amps to the floor of the cab otherwise they probably would have walked away with everything. I was thinking about parking my truck in the garage but I decided to leave it outside. I have a surprise for them if they try it again.

I don't know that it is someone from here. I was just really pissed off that morning and thought it to be very strange that it happened the morning after I posted my install pictures. It was wierd too that instead of going after my head unit which is in plain sight they went straight to the amps which are hidden behind the seat.

I posted some pictures of my 98 SS on a car site and the next week it got stolen man. I know what you're feeling and that **** sucks. I do have a question though. How did you get the plastic pieces off in the back so you could put the matting down. I have a 00 extended cab and want to do this to my ranger because the road noise and vibrations are killing me!

Everything is held down by those plastic "nail" things (they look like a plastic nail with ribs on the shaft that either go into a hole in the sheet metal or through another plastic receiver). Just pull really hard and it will pop off. I don't know if it is possible to remove them without breaking some, however, you can buy replacements at any auto parts store for really cheap.

Nice install, too bad about the scumbag(s) who tried to make it theirs.

The only critique' I have is that your RCA's & power wires should have been ran as far apart as possible to reduce EMF & other interference. Unless, of course, all those cables running down the center of the truck are just RCA's & speaker wires, then you should be in pretty good shape.

A little tip to deter would-be thieves... razor blades.
Epoxy a few of them to the head unit chassis, a few to the back of the amp rack (right where somebody would normally pull on it) and as soon as they pull back with a bloody nub where their fingers used to be, they'll be gone for good & they'll probably tell their criminal friends not to bother with your stuff.
You just need to be careful when YOU work on things so that you don't come up missing a few digits.

In the following picture you can see the blue power wire in the foreground and as you mentioned the RCA wires are run down the transmission tunnel.

no, i just the area underneath the door skin. by making the panel to cover the large opening in the door and covering that as well it was not necessary to do the inside.

Beautiful work, if the rain lets up over here I plan on doing practically the same thing this weekend. Working on the custom box each day after work.

Love the razor blade idea, even though you get blood all inside your car, you get the satisfaction in knowing that savage is in some pain. I'd be more than happy to pay for an iterior detail/stain removal knowing he's all cut up.

I heard of someone putting fish hooks all around the back side of his head unit. I guess the theifs had pulled his head unit out before and they just got under the dash, grabbed a hold of the deck and pulled it out. Anyway the next morning he came out and the theif was still there with his fingers stuck to the deck. Not sure how true this is, but not a bad idea either.

I too have to ditto the nice job compliment. It's amazing how much difference sound deadner makes. The ash tray mod is awesome

AMAZING JOB!

I hate a thief. I had a 96 Ranger I had up for sale on the side of a busy highway. THis truck was pretty decked out. I had 4" drop front and rear, raised tank, euro lights, roll pan, custom blue interior, ford mustang sun roof, alarm system, flip up DVD panel head unit with my amp bolted to the back of the cab like yours only aligned with the console. Also had subs but took them out while it was sitting for sale. Didn't bother with the amp cause they had a better chance of getting away with my motor than it. Anyways it sat there 3 days and 4 nights. I saw it twice a day. Going to work and coming home as I passed it and would stop to check on it everyday. Well the morning of th e 4th day I was late for work and was just going to take a quick glance instead of stop. Was getting closer and noticed the seat was push forward. Was looking from the drivers side. I knew something was wrong. Flew up to it, parked and apparently some ***hole busted out my passenger window, stole the head unit tore up the dash ripped up the carpet (who knows why) and tried there best to get the amp. It was still there but mangled up and broke. For some damn reason the alarm didn't go off on my truck. I was tempted to call the company and have them replace the merchandise due to a faulty product. A certifed tech installed it too. Long story short. Cops came took photos and such and searched the scene. They found a small bag of cocaine right below my truck with a street value of $350 approx. THey got away with a $250 head unit they probly sold cheap but lost about $350 worth of cocaine. hahaha boy did I feel some sweet revenge. In the end I sold the truck for $1200 just to get rid of it. Busted window in all. :(
I can't stand a thief. I hope the dude is caught who broke into your truck and strung up by his toe nails!

I did a similar dynamatt install in my truck. I purchased 490$ worth of second skin. I completely stripped the entire interior, and sound deadened the outer skins, the inner panels, and the plastic panels. The whole truck has 3 layers of sound deadener now. It is quieter than a brand new lexus or cadillac.
