What I have now is a non premium sound system in mine and an aftermarket sub. What I want to do is to put JBL in the doors and install 2 JBL subs and amps in the suicide doors in the cargo holds.

I was at pull-a-part the other day and got the four JBL that went into the doors of the explorer but the sub was busted and didn't have enough time to look for other subs.

I need to know exactly what to get next time I am there because I didn't get a good look at the amp and wiring. I know I saw two boxes under the panel but didn't pay attention to where all the wires went. Does anyone have a picture of the amp and a wiring diagram for the amp?

NEED HELP!!!!!!

I don't think putting subs in the cab doors is a killer idea, unless they're 8" subs, i don't think they'll fit.

nonetheless, heres how you wire them.

Take a subwoofer feed from the back of your head unit and run it to the amp. (its usually RCA connection)
You also need to run power from your battery to your amp. you should use some heavy wire since amps do pull a bit of power. I think 8 Gauge is the standard wire everyone runs.
Then, depending on the impedance of your speakers and the amp, you can wire them in different ways.
the most common way for single voice coil subs is to wire the positive and negative from each sub to the amp.

some amps come with a bass gain control input, those are usually separate and i mount them in the glove box just so they're out of the way.

I also would recommend buying new when you find an sub and amp. unless you know the power ratings and how long some of that stuff has been in the elements and what not, you may have more issues than its worth.

 

OK. I seen some JBL subs in the junk yard and I think they are rated @ 65 watts RMS. With some digging I think I am gonna stay away from the factory amps b/c they do not have all the gain controls that I want. The subs I want are 6.5 inch and would be ideal to put into the rear doors. I think some of the members have built boxes to put into the doors so maybe they may would chime in and give me the low down on building them. Like I said I already have the wiring and a 1000 watt 10in behind the seat but having my space back would be great. It gets crowded with my fire gear and the huge sub behind the seat. I hope somebody else would give me some feedback on this. The more ideas the better.

An alternative to the subs would be beefing up your front and or rear speakers. sound deadening and sealing the doors from the back wave can make up for the lack of a dedicated sub. it would be easier IMO to do also.
