new system question

im installing two kicker 12" L7's and a kicker ZX1500.1 amp. i figured a yellow top is a must but what about an alt. upgrade? is that needed? the local stereo place is telling me to run a second battery. do i really need that? anyones thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

no you should be fine with just a yellow top... UNLESS you plan on having the system cranked up and all the lights on and the A/C on lol.... basically you will be fine with just a yellow topp battery....

I can tell you that your odds of being able to get through a complete low bass note song cranked is slim. Although yellow tops are made for systems, I've had both a red and yellow top and alternator just cannot keep up with the amount of power the amp is demanding. I just have 1 12" 1200watt sub wired at 1ohm with a red top and 2farad capacitor and It still cuts out. OHMs is a big factor though when you wire those subs. How many ohms are you going to wire them at? 1 or 2, you might need more power, but 4 ohms you should be fine. Don't listen to the stereo shop about the second battery though, I'd upgrade my alternator before adding a second battery.

I'd put the 200 amp alternator that you can get for it as well as a 5 farad capacitor. You can get a 5 farad on ebay for less than you can get a 1 farad at Circuit City.
