so I got a set of 15" kicker CVXs and a 1500 watt jbl amp off of a friend for a pretty good price. The bad part about it is they came with a car box... so right now its stood up on the passenger side so I don't have my knees hitting the dash board, and just looks sloppy as far as I'm concerned, plus I know this set up sounds better in a well built ported box. So I designed this. (btw, google sketchup ftw)






box is gonna be about 4.7 cubic feet per side, tuned to 30 hz. The area sunk in on the face is for the arm rest, sticks out past where my seat does. top of the box is an amp rack, the cut out on the top is gonna have a plexiglass sheet with "ranger" etched into it, with LEDs underneath. the cut out in the back of the box is for the wires. The cut out on the bottom of the amp rack that you can see in the third picture is for a speaker terminal. I'm gonna probably use PC case fans for ventilation, one to push, one to pull air through the amp enclosure.

what do you have for dimensions and dont bother with terminals they just leak i like to run the wire in where you cant see them and silcone em in

 

thought about that, it would make for a more air tight enclosure, probably end up doing that since no ones gonna see em anyways. uhhh internal demensions are something like 48x17x18/13(bottom/top)

 

and I lied, actual internal demensions are (per side. theres a partition) top width-17.25, bottom width-21.25, height-17.75. length-26.5, apoximately, outer demensions are top width-18 bottom width-23, height 27, length-49.5

 

drawings look nice how deep back will that port go

 

The ports start 6" from the back of the box, and the internal demensions are 3x10x15

 

you sure you need that much lol

 

The bigger the better. Max recommended ported box size for those subs is 5 cubic feet a sub.

 

And I just calculated the internal demnsions, came up with 5.23, minus subwoofer displacement leaves is at
about 5.1 cubes per side, which should be fine.

 

Ports will now be 3x10x13 Anyone have any inputs on tuning. You think 30hz is good? Should I go lower? Higher?

 

i wouldn't go any lower than 30, and even 30 sounds a bit low to me

 

I was about to say, I calculated at least 5cubes per sub

 

I might up it to 32-34, I've had these with 4 cubes tuned to 28hz and they did hit super low but didn't hit very high at all. I think the recommended tuning is 34 on the low end for these.

 

i had a mmats juggernaught and it was tuned to around 30 and i hated it. I would do 34. I had a re audio 15 at 34 and it was great! still hit decently low

 

yea 30s are like compitition levels and ranger024x4 box cubic feet nearly doubles when porting at least to do it correctly within the woofer specifications and especially with 15s

 

Re subs are the ****. My buddy has an re sr or se 10" ported tuned to about 38hz. Thing sounds soooo clean. I think I'm gonna go tuned to 32hz, mostly cause I really like the low end bass. Bass lines like in Soul Survivor by Akon, or Beats For My Van by DJ Billy E type stuff. And if I really hate it THAT much building a different box isn't going to kill me.

its all about what you like i had ported boxes when i used to compete spl slap drag compitions and had one ported box in my last accord but now im not really huge into big bass and jsut went with a sealed box pushing like 680 to the woofers

 

Yea. I'm still a 'young punk kid' I like my music stupidly loud, and I was never a fan of 15s in a sealed box. But like you said it's all about what you like.

 

I understand all of that. Im pretty much a ***** when it comes to systems. There isnt much that I havent had. lol

 

In order for the sub to sound right, you need tune the port to the subs fs (resonate frequency) parameter. not just what ever number you think is right. You will need to email kicker for the "thiele/small" parameters. use a program like winISD to model the sub in its enclosure. ported boxes are tricky to get right..
