Standard cab or regular cab?

If you have a regular cab, I suggest a single 10" in a ported enclosure. Either way, I say go ported. I'm very impressed with JL Audio's new 10W1v2. It's around $100-$120.

I do suggest also to go and listen to all you have access to. Find a brand that you like. I'm a JL and Alpine guy.

I have an extended cab. I was thinking about going with 2 twelves just dont know which ones and I need an amp. I was gonna take out the jump seats in the back and make a custom boxes coming out of both sides.

JL puts out a great speaker. I have had everything from a diamond, to rockford fosgate, and MTX. Like stated above, listen to everythingyou can and pick what you think sounds he best to you. What one guy thinks sounds good might sound like crap to you.....there is a very wide market out there to look at....good luck!!

first rule...read alot on this forum...everyone here knows alot, they have been there an done it...but any way, first step is a good head unit...either Alpine or pioneer...next is mids, i only have my doors connected and i have SPL 6x8 in them cheap but VERY good...think 50 bucks or so, then comes subs...i swear by Kicker, comp cvr's in 10 or 12 would do u perfect, sealed or ported...its hard for me to say, i had both, and i like sealed or big box with a small port or 2...and then amps, there are alot, but look and see if the company has a thing that says it pushes what they say it does, i know kicker does...as for amp...i went kicker...had a 200x2 and to small, 400x1 is ok for 2 comp 10s, you might look into the 750x2 or so range...and tweeters..i have 4 in my truck, spl too, nice and clear, 15 bucks a pair...best i ever spent...thats all i can think of lol

quest51210, just about anybody who knows what they are talking about can piece together a system. Most of the people that post on the forum are looking for ideas. Or to see what others are running. Some of us tell them to go out and see what they for themselves.

Im with him, You definately need a quality deck, i persoanlly have the pioneer, great sound quality, and it will do more then i ever need. I have an extended cab and i listen to the same stuff as you. I went with 2 - 10's because they hit tight, with rock and country 12's i think sound a little sloppy. Thats after you get mids, I have all Memphis mids (door speakers, rear speakers and tweeters), and i have 2 - MA Audio 10's with an MA Audio amp and a 2 farrad capasitor with an optima yellow top. I have a Ported box (professionaly built and tuned for the subs, hertz, db, and spl). My subs can rock my truck, with the sub turned down it cranks with rock and country, now if i turn the sub up, and adjust my deck i came in 1st place 3 times in a row for DB 141 and DBQ 162.3

yea, dont use the factory HU.....its ok if you dont have a system, but its no good if you do. Its not going to sound any better than what its hooked up to. I messed up a sub in a weeks time after I had it hooked up to the factory HU before I realized what was happening. (had the bass turned up on the HU) Plus, I heard the stock HU starts to clip shortly before or at half volume.

i would start out with a good headunit, get a 2ch amp and a set of good components... they wont have alot of bass but they will give you a good all around sound and be more than enough for a ranger.
but thats just my 2 cents... and then for a sub a single 10 would do ya good i think.
and whatever amp that is in spec with the sub.

from my personal experiences... id always do the mids/highs first since alot of bass and stock mids/highs will sound like dump after a while(highs cant keep up as well when ya upgrade the bass with subs..)

and i would go with a 6.5 speaker instead of a 6x8.. but thats because there are more options that way.

Take the 500 bucks and buy a head unit, top of the line with all the bells and whistles, then plan the system by what it can do, like pre amp outputs, xm, eq, things like that...best thing to do
