You might be able to use the ground off the radio wires. I know it works for most jvc's.

I have the avh 4300 DVD and to hardwire it for video bypass, follow this diagram. If you have one of the avid units with hav it's different though.

that's just a standard automotive relay by the way. in case you hadnt figured that out.

i'm sure you'll be happy with that, looks like a real nice unit. i had the 4000 back in the day, the 4300 now. pioneer makes good double dins.

Since these are all from the same line and only a year apart, I think that method should still work. it basically just acts as an automatic switch, where the amp turn on is the trigger, rather than the parking brake.

The reason just grounding out the switch doesn't work is that the unit has to detect a CHANGE (i.e. the parking brake being set)

sooo..... it didnt completely work. After installing the relay i was able to dial phone numbers but still wasn't able to watch any videos. Should i have made a separate ground for the relay cause i tied it in with the grounds with the harness for the deck.

It's weird that it worked part way. I'd it's grounded it's grounded, shouldn't matter where. It could just be that the newer units, something changed for the video bypass.

Well hey what about this...
What are you using to watch the videos? If its an iPhone or iPod, What cable are you using? You can't just use your iPod USB cable. You have to use and iPod cable that will have USB, and the composite video cables. That's assuming you ae trying to watch videos on your phone or something though.

Have you tried DVDs as well?

Ok here I did so e research. Check out this link. Read through it because they talk about it. And by the way, this is a great website for info on these units.

http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/33388-avh-p8400bh/

Basically the relay works but it doesn't work, due to how the radio checks for the parking brake. It doesn't check at turn on like the earlier units, it only checks when you turn to a video source. So start a DVD as the source, then turn the radio off and back on. It should work.

To fix it you can either get a switch or an aftermarket bypass from the website listed in that thread, I think microbypass.com but I did not read the whole thread. So you should do that.

Then it would be normally closed, so once you start the ignition it will go to the off position
