Pioneer AVIC-N4 Accessories

When I installed my N4 last year I didn't bother to add any accessories. I didn't think I'd need/use any of them. After living with the N-4 for a year. I'm beginning to think about it again. The N4 is capable of handling a number of accessories. I'm thinking about the following.

1-HD Radio tuner. (Pioneer part # GEX-P10HD) I live in the southern Calif desert, surrounded by mountains, 6 months out of the year. Radio reception sucks in this area. So I usually just listen to my CD's. The other 6 months I'm in Tenn. or traveling around the country. Will/does the HD tuner help under these conditions?

2-I-Pod Adapter. (Pioneer part # CD-i200) I currently have a 12 CD changer. I'm thinking about changing to the I-Pod. I'm concerned about sound quality. The extra capacity though, would be nice on a cross country trip. Will this adapter allow the I-Pod to run off the car battery or will I need a another wire for that?

3-Bluetooth Adapter. (Pioneer part # CD-BTB200) Calif now has a hands free cell phone law. So I need this for the hands free calling. Will this unit allow my phone to run off the car battery?

4-Remote control (Pioneer part 3 CD-R55) Just want this for the ease and convenience of not having to lean forward to touch the screen on long trips.

That's it. Have I covered everything? Can you guys think of anything I might need/want in the future? Is there anything I need besides the kits mentioned to make everything work?

Thanks for any help guys.

You might need some sort of junction box from Pioneer to run all of those. Maybe instead of HD how about Satalite Radio? The ipod direct connection should sound excellent

1. No idea, I just listen to my iPod all day...
2. The iPod adapter they sell will charge your iPod
3. No it will not charge your cell, the bluetooth adapter justs plugs into the back of the HU, you won't even see the unit after installation (depending on where you install it).
4. Love the pioneer remote on mine for the reason that it is easier to use than that HU controls.

get the ipod connection, bluetooth and remote. hd radio isnt big enough yet to invest in the tuner. i have done 2 hd radio tuners and there is only like 5 stations. but my avh4000dvd i am running the ipod cable, bluetooth interface and soon to be back up camera. the bluetooth is nice however if you have verizon you can not upload your adress book to it because they delete the OPP object push profile from their phones. that allows your to transfer the phonebook. remote is nice i will probly pick one up for ease of use. but they are big and ugly

Thanks guys. I ordered the bluetooth wireless adapter, I-pod cable and the remote. Think I found a good deal. Paid $168 for all 3. Including shipping. should be here in a week or so.

Now I have to start thinking about an I-pod. Was thinking about the shuffle/2GB. The literature says it will hold 500 songs. That's only about twice what my 12 CD changer can do right now. For only $69 + S&H, that seems like a good deal though. On the other hand for only $149 - 199 +S&H, I can get the Nano. With 8 & 16 GB respectively. Finally the Classic. For only $50 more than the 16 GB Nano, I can have 120 GB of Digital music. Then there are always the "Refurbished" Nano, $99 and "Refurbished" Classic, $169. Are the Refurbished I-pods as reliable as the new ones? My ENTIRE CD collection is currently only about 200 CD's and about 16 GB. When I stopped buying vinal records, my collection was over 1200 records. If I live long enough, I can see my CD collection getting almost as large. I will probably never put videos, or photos on the I-pod. Just music.

So I guess my new question is, which I-pod is best for me. I'm leaning towards the 8 GB Nano. The bargain hunter in me says for only $100 more, I could have the classic with 15 times the capacity. Even though I'll probably never use anywhere near that much capacity. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

So let's hear it guys. Pros and cons on the various I-pods. Thanks for any help.

I have HD radio and love it. I listen to my ipod a majority of the time, but when I do use the radio, HD makes a huge difference. It seems that almost every radio station broadcasts in HD, even AM stations. For the $100 price tag of the pioneer HD tuner, its well worth it.

Well my parts arrived today. I'll probably wait until Monday to install the bluetooth adapter and the interface cable for the I-pod. This weekend is reserved for the grandkids. The manuals seem pretty straight forward. Is there anything I need to watch out for. Looks like a plug-N-play to me.
