regarding mono amps..

hey guys...i have a couple of questions...im fairly new to car audio im still learning things here and there...my question is how do u power 2 subs with a mono amp? do u just put both +'s into one terminal and both -'s into the other? my other question is about this amp :http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-XPLOD-XM-D9...QQcmdZViewItem its 550 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms

would it be too much to push 2 kicker cvr 12's @ 4ohms rated at 400 w rms?

If your subs are 4 ohms and the amp only has 1 terminal for Positive and one for Negative, and you hook up 2 4ohm subs, you'd be running the amp at 2ohms, so you would have 900 rms output from the amp powering the subs, which would be about 450rms per sub. Thats how mine is setup. Does that make sence to you?

alot of mono amps have 2 terminals on the outside for speaker hook up, but on the inside they are internally bridged, so it ends up being just the same as having 1 hook up, just easier

just throwing some info out

Just remember to wire them in parallel to achieve a 2 ohm load. And you should make sure your amp is 2 ohm stable, which the amp you linked to is.

Parallel:
+________
A + +
M SUB SUB
P __-___- _

sorry that looks horrible (google wiring speakers in parallel)

Dual speaker terminals, hell, give me dual 12volt power terminals! It's aweful fun getting 0/1 cable on a lug so it can be secure.
