A question regarding headunit power and amps

I've decided for a number of reasons that I would rather run my carputer audio through a headunit instead of directly from the computer. Do I need to worry about the power output or pre-out voltage of a headunit if I have an amp to go with the unit?

Also, does anyone have any particular suggestions for headunits? I would like one that has a removable face (security reasons), is relatively inexpensive, and has enough pre-outs for two amps, and an auxiliary input for the carputer. I really like Alpine, but I'm willing to look around if you guys have something you very strongly suggest. The system has JL amps and sub and Boston Pro60 speakers, so please suggest something of quality to go with the rest of the system! I appreciate any input you guys can send my way.

I recommend the Alpine-9856. It's ~200 bucks (free shipping, etc etc on Crutchfield) and you can get the RCA-in AUX cable for your carputer. I love mine, and it works GREAT I also sent you a PM.

Thanks Larson! I was considering both the Alpine 9856 and the Pioneer 5800. They are both in my price range and have about the same options. I do like that the Pioneer has a remote and more power. I'm not sure if that extra power makes a difference though since I am using amplifiers for my speakers. Any ideas there?

9856 for shure. The remote is just something to use and the amps take care of the power.

i know for the Alpines, there's an option to not use the internal amplifiers, which means the headunit is just there to send music out to the different channels. (in a nutshell: internal power doesn't matter)

Ah that's good to know. I've got to run out to get some MDF to finish up my amp rack and some carpet to cover everything up, so I will stop by some of the stores and see if I can't fiddle with the different decks and see what I like more.

Hey Bryce I appreciate the offer, but I can get the unit new for $200 or less through Crutchfield, and then get the RCA input adapter for ~$25.

That'd be great, but I don't have that electronics store here, so unfortunately, the ext. warranty would be useless for me. Otherwise it would be a pretty good deal. I'll mull it over today and shoot you a PM later on tonight.
