Review these speakers please

LOOK DOWN FOR NEW STUFF

alirght well i want to get some new speakers for my truck because the ones i have arent the greatest and im still squeezed for money because im trying to buy a new truck. i was looking around and found these for cheap and they are sony so i figured they should be good quality.

they are 5x7 which is supposed to fit the truck. 160peak watts with 40 rms, if you want any more specs its here http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....5&type=product

also how many watts does the stock head unit of a 99 put out just so i know if i should get a head unit before the speakers.

thanks

jeff

if i rmember correctly.. which i probably am not, the stock headunit puts out about 18 to 19 watts per speaker.. giver or take a couple...

as far as getting sony speakers.. those will be better than your stockers.. but wont be anything phenominal. sony does a good job of covering the electrical market by making a little bit of everything, but as far as speakers go, they arent among the greatest, if you know what i mean.. they'll handle better than what you have now with your stock headunit and all.. and if you are tight on money right now.. then they'd be a good enough improvement.

stock headunit puts out about 18 to 19 watts per speaker
do you know if thats rms or peak?

anyone else wanna take a stab at the stock wattage just so i know if it will be worth spending 150$ to get 10 more watts

it was RMS im pretty sure. it doesnt sound like a lot, i know.. but.. thats about all it gives out!

good to see your gonna get something a little better too.. id go with the pioneers as well over the sonys.. plus, if you ever get an aftermarket headunit.. the pioneer will perform a little better than the sonys.

RMS. The 2003 CD6 put out 21 or 22 watts. The newer 2004+ versions put out more. Doesn't matter a whole lot because 1-3 watts is splitting hairs.

A 96 model stereo will be even less. You can look up the more recent stereos on www.visteon.com.

It requires Double the wattage to increase sound output by 3 dB. So 10 more watts over 20 watts might give you around 1-2 extra dB's. That's volume (SPL). But you should have sigificant increase in fidelity (Sound quality) but upgrading from the stock stereo.
