Just picked up a gently pre-owned '08 XL Reg Cab, 33K miles, manual. Super-clean! But it came with only AM/FM and 2 fronts. There are boxes behind the seat for 2 more speakers.

Want to upgrade and add 4 Kenwood or Pioneer 6x8's (I love Infinity and Polk but don't want to amplify), and also get an OEM head unit with CD and maybe even aux in.

If I switch out the AM/FM-only for an OEM with CD, what should I look for to make sure it's compatible. Did they change the design/wiring after '05?

I'm thinking it's the new passive security feature which would require me to get an 2006-up unit.

I'd go aftermarket but I don't want to get broken into--been down that path too many times. Thanks!

 

I'd go with four of the Pioneer 4way 6x8s and stock CD HU for fairly acceptable sound on a budget. I don't know whether the wiring is there for the rear speakers, but a stock 06+ HU should plug right up.
