sub direction

well i am upgradeing my system and i was wondering which way would be the best way to face the subs??? I have had a bunch of systems in my truck and when i had them facing upwards like towards the ceiling i liked how they sounded but this time i was thinking about building the box with the subs facing the floor. So which one would sound better?

people claim downward firing subs are best, but they aren't. apparently the best setup for a truck is to have the subs facing forward, with the ports (if there are any) facing up.

id say go with them facing upward again then, if thats how they were before and you liked it like that. mine are sort of facing forward and upward at the same time in my new box.

Facing up is the worst. Downfiring works GREAT in Rangers (and in general). I matched my system when I had 3 12w3s in a sealed downfiring with a JL 1000/1 up against another Ranger edge with the EXACT same equipment but with a ported forward firing box and not only was mine 10x cleaner, but the bass completely put this guy to shame. It was louder, cleaner, and waaaay lower.
the guy flat told me that it made him sick.

Barrman can attest to the insane volume and quality of my downfiring setups. Aside from downfiring you can also cornerload and get great results; typically grabbing 2-3 dbs.

That's just the differences between a sealed and ported box...

how crappy was this box the other guy had????? cleaner, yes, it was sealed, so of course.. but lower notes.. not even possible. his box must have been horrible if your sealed hit lower than his ported with teh same exact equipment.

The bottom end drop-off on ported boxes that are tuned around 30-40hz is worse than a hp filter on a sub set too high...
