Sub for Screw

I know virtually nothing when it comes to subs so I want to tap into your guys' vast knowledge. I want to put a single 8" sub under the drivers rear seat in my '04 F150 screw. I have heard that JL Audio is a good brand but am completely open to suggestions. I want to spend around $200 or less and am fine with buying used and building my own box. Show me some options of subs, amps and boxes that would work. Links are always great also.

JL audio makes very good subs. Good quality and sound awesome cant go wrong there. They also make good amps. Other amps i like are Rockford fosgate and on the budget side of amps Power acoustik i have had very good luck with them..

If it’s not too big an Infinity Basslink might work well for you, although it is a little bit more than $200. See here: Infinity Basslink Powered Subwoofer at Crutchfield Signature I’ve actually considered getting something like this myself. That way you don’t have to mess with multiple components.

You're wanting to spend $200 or less for everything? I think that's possible. JL's 8's are pretty good. Get a shallow mount 8" so you can make a smaller box. Look into Kicker amps. They're fairly cheap. Get something like this amp:
1200W POWER ACOUSTIK OV2-1200 2Ch Car Amplifier/Amp - eBay (item 350343523760 end time May-20-10 06:56:21 PDT)

It will put out perfect amount of power for any 8" that you buy.

Tyler's right kicker amps are also good but i wouldnt go as far to call them cheap lol. That amp that he linked though i have owned a few of and they work awsome. Im not sure if your going to need a 1200 watt amp to power a 8 though..

They say it's 1200w. It really puts out about 300.

is 1200 W more than enough then? About how many watts to 8s typically need?

well, i bought all but the box on ebay and it was around 5-550 for EVERYTHING. that was 2 10" rockford fosgate P3 shallow mounts and a 1000 watt kenwood amp and all the wiring and an ipod cable and new headunit bracket. subs were 115 ea and the amp was 103. free shipping. the subs have a 3.5 inch mounting depth so they might suit you good. 8s would prolly fit better though

Bridged yea, I'm talking about per channel. That's a good amp. Yea it's not top of the line but Power Acoustiks is still good stuff.

This on says it's 5.25" tall. I have about 6.5" max to work with (box height). Is there a general rule for how far the back of the sub should be from the box or is pretty much touching ok?

What do you guys think about this set up? I would have to make my own box so it will fit, but the price is pretty cheap.

Edit: This sub is too deep and wont fit even without the box.

Or one of these MTX 8s and the bottom amp? I would offer something like $100 for both.
