trying to find a new stereo wiring harness

I have been trying to find a replacement for the stereo wiring harness for a couple of days now and I cannot for the life of me figure out what to get. I can find a harness the has the same plug that I need but the wires are not color coded the same. I have found websites that claim to find the exact part number if you put in your VIN and everything that either spit out a random Motorcraft part number and no other information to tell me that's actually what I'm looking for or they give me a listing for a completely different part.

Is there any way for me to reliably find the part number. and if I get the part with a different wiring color code will I be able to either find a diagram to tell me which wire goes with what or can I just match the wire placement on the plug, ie second wire from the left on the tor row goes with the corresponding wire from the old part.

all the wiring work I have done in the past has been a simple hot, neutral, and ground connection between a power source and something that needs power so I've never really had to worry about the color code of a dozen wires. so I'm sorry if I'm missing something obvious here I've just never worked on something like this before and don't know which route to follow.

thanks

Are you trying to find the adapter that plugs into your factory plug ?

Or is your factory plug missing and you just have a bunch of wires where the radio plug should be?

I have a bunch of wires where the radio should be, although I have the old plug and I found the diagram for the wires coming out of the truck. what I need is to figure out how to connect a new plug to plug the wires into the radio if that makes sense.

I'm can't seem to find a replacement for the factory plug that has the same wire colors.

So you have the wires coming out of the truck that the original connector was cut off of... you have the original connector with the cut wires ... right?
are you trying to reinstall the factory stereo, or figure out how to install an aftermarket stereo?
