they're basically like labrinths, that'll produce deep, non resonant bass. they're usually large, and a little complex to build. when done correctly, the enclosure will give you about 3dB of gain (much like just adding a second subwoofer to a regular system), but you'll be using just one sub (achieving the product of 2). the length of the enclosure is 1/4 the length of the wavelength of the speaker being used.
if i remember correctly, i think Bose made that little sound system thing a few years back (they had infomercials on all the time). it was a t-line design (if i remember correctly).
