I was told they make it, but i never see it. You know a shop that carries it?

 

you dont need it... really have you ever tryed Clay baring your truck then using NXT wax after?

 

never have tried it, i just have a big keymark on the side of my truck, wondering if there was anything that would help, and i heard the black waz would help some. i went over the keymark with a finepoint sharpie and it worked surprisingly good haha.

 

if its deep the best way would be filling it with paint and ordering a scratch kit form eastwood.com wet sanding and polishing the spot it will hide it quite well. if its just superficual then try scratch-x then clay then wax

 

wax that 'specially formulated for black cars' is just a marketing gimick, imo. use a quality meguiars cleaner, polish, and wax and you'll get excellent results.

 

yes that wax is always stupid. there is better ways to take care of it

 

ive never heard of this clay and wax deal. the keymark isnt that deep, its very vey shallow, but i cant buff it out



thats about 1/3 of the length it is

 

claying wont do a thing for that scratch. in fact, that scratch probably wont ever come out 100%, but you can make it look much better.

i'd suggest using meguiars scratch x along the entire scratch. use 3 to 5 applications with a foam wax pad or similar, and work it in really well each time. scratch x has diminishing abrasives, so it polishes out the small scratches it leaves as well as scratches in the paint. (also the reason why multiple applications are needed)

once thats done, i'd use a paint cleaner like meguiars #83 medium cut or #80 fine cut cleaner on the entire vehicle. after thats done, i'd follow up with a pure polish, as black really benefits from polish.

finally, a coat or two of nxt wax.

this might be considered overkill, but the results will be well worth it. you'll reduce the appearance of that scratch, as well as reducing the amount of swirls in your paint (which, by the looks of the picture, is quite a lot ;o)

if you want to just try and fix it up as quick as possible without too many steps, then use the scratch x or a similar rubbing compound, followed by maybe meguiars cleaner wax. (has mild cleaners, polish and wax all in one)

much better. do yourself a favor get eather a mothers or meguairs clay bar clay the WHOLE truck. then use Liquid NXT mequiars wax do the whole truck it will look very nice black needs alot of caring

 

yeah black is a ***** haha. I'll probably go buy all that stuff this weekend and i'll take pics of the area when i'm done.

 

i highly recommend claying and NXT wax for that truck beleave me you will get done and be like WOW. also grab a pack of MICROFIBER towels WELL worth the $ beleave me!

 

I can probably find all this at any local auto store like Oreilly or Autozone, right? Yeah i'll listen to you anyday after seeing the miracles you worked on the Splash.

 

yes you should if you cant you can order it all on meguiars.com so its all good i would rather recommend meguiars clay but i heard its hard to find i order all my stuff from a dealer i know so ya i have large quanitys at the moment of stuff. also get the liquid NXT wax its goes on and off much better then paste, paste leave alot of was dust and that is horrible on black.

There is a ballpoint pen tip for scratches like yours and a brush.



They can be fould at Autozone I know for sure, mostly any auto parts store has them.

 

^^ he got most the scratch out with scratch-x filling the void with paint is the last option

 

i hate using touch up paint on the black truck because i can never put it on smooth and when when the truck is clean, theres a rough line that isnt shiny, but i guess i could polish it and stuff after i touched it up

 

I heard of using clay but i thought it was just for the spots that were pretty bad, I never knew you can clay a whole truck.... Am i thinking of the right thing? It's a little bar right? You'd need a couple then, right? Never tried it but sounds like a whole lot of work. My Ranger is black and it's getting old. The black is fading, so the clay should revive it a bit, ya?

I dont think anything about the claying, but i'm going to give it a try.

 

no clay is for removing contaminates on the paint like tree sap, tar, stuck on bugs, yadadyaydada. its really helps. not for faded paint.

you probly would need to mechine work the paint with a fine mechine compound, then do like a mechine glaze then it should be fine not needing clay till next time you need to wax it. then finish up with a NXT wax when you done that will take almost 2 days to do right. or one whole 8 hour day.

yes clay is a small bar that you use with a lubricant like mequairs quik detailer and rub on the paint you can us it on the whole truck its acully recommened every few months. there is different fine and strong compounds of clay a normal clay at the auto store isnt very harsh at all. i have painters clay for painting and over spray that is alot harsher. and 1 clay bar will last you like oh about 12 times easy it doesnt like wear away like a eraser it get contaminated and you dont want to keep using it.

 

sweet, i have an old thread about tree sap stuck to my truck that i could never get off, maybe this clay will do the trick.

ive always been afraid of the machine buffers because i see a lot of cars driving around with those swirls all over it and it looks pretty bad. any tips on avoiding that? i especially see it on black cars... probably its pretty visible on black ones vs other colors.
