How do you guys with the MT Classic II's clean your wheels? I just got mine and they look great so far, I just want to keep them that way.

 

for now a good wax like NXT when you go threw like winter i think its 000 steel wool and polish thats what bill uses i think you acully go to there site and i think thats what is recommeded...

 

I have never owned Classic II's but I have owned a lot of Rims on various cars over the years and what I do on a car that I want to keep clean, is once a week I hose them down with filtered water and wash all the loose grime off with a soft sponge, then I use mag wheel poilsh and a Baby diaper. If you do it once a week it shouldn't take more than ten minutes, but if you let it go for a while plan on some extra time.

P.S. Make sure you use clear coat safe polish, not all of them are if you read the lable.

 

go to a truck stop and buy some good aluminuim polish. i use a bosche (sp?) polish that works awesome. mothers and those other polishes work but not as well.

i dont use wax or anything like that on mine. just the polish.

also dry your wheels after you wash them.

ClassicII are not clear coated its just polished aluminum

 

As noted above, Mickey Thompson wheels are NOT clear coated, so pay more attention to the polish or cleaner being aluminum safe.

That being said, my MTII's are corroded from too much immersion in acidic Wharton water without enough follow up cleaning.

This is the big issue for lots of polished aluminum wheels like the MTII -- they are not clear coated and you will need genuine metal polish and elbow grease to keep them up. That's why the 000 steel wool -- you are cleaning metal and not clear coat. You would NEVER use any kind of steel wool on clear coated wheels.

I'll be doing mine eventually but they'll never shine like stock, lol -- but then my wheels are less for appearance and more because they are stronger, wider, and have better backspacing for my use than the stock ones.

 

How does one go about filtering the hose water?

I wash my entire truck w/ the hose tap water, I assume filtered water would be better on the paint too.... but would it be cost effective?

 

I dunno about filtered water or steel wool or anything like that, but I do use Wheel Wax on my wheels and my wife's BMW. Works great. I believe the wheels are all clear coated.

So, while I don't know for sure if it works on un-clear-coated wheels...it works great on clear coated ones.

I think tap water is fine. After all, the wheels don't see "filtered" water when it rains!

 

I have an adapter that goes on the hose reel, I think it is a brita. Now there still might be dirt in the hose, but it makes a huge difference when you are as picky as me on the details. The coin Car wash's use filtered water for their spotless rinse setting. It is alot easier than cleaning the pots after your car dries.

actually even rain water spots aluminum unclear coated wheels.

mine used to be a pain to keep nice, now i use this stuff and only do them once a month if that.

Ah -- from that standpoint it makes sense. I always just wipe the vehicle dry to prevent spots -- when I care, lol. My truck is pretty torn up finish-wise from offroading so it's not quite the issue it used to be.

Pine trees do this interesting "pine striping" thing that has sap but also is gouges in the clear coat the remain after the sap is removed. Price you pay for offroading in a pine forest...

 

which is why i just dont offroad that much. plus i tend to do stupid stuff while wheeling

Sorry to hear that Zach, considering how your truck is built. I just couldn't have a truck like yours (or mine for that matter) and not USE it for what it's built to do.

its ok, ive just come to the conclusion that wheeling it isnt worth the fun to destruction ratio yet. but when it is im sure ill have fun.
